Major 2009 Trends...In One Outfit

Photobucket
Exaggerated shoulders? Check
Lace? Check
Long-Sleeve mini? Check

Kim Kardashian has it all! However, I would definitely put this in my "Don't ever wear this, not even to get the mail" category. What about you ladies? Even though I don't always care about Kim (see here and here or even here) she's smoking hot 95% of the time, so I can't be too harsh on her. But why hide your gorgeous body with a dress that looks like it was made for a football player?

Beautiful Blogger Award

Photobucket
Jen from The Look 4 Less nominated me for this Beautiful Blogger award, how fun! Thanks again love! If you're not already a follower, I suggest you hightail it to her blog right after you finish reading my post! She finds looks that are either inspired by or identical look alikes to high-end fashion for a great deal and she has absolutely the best taste.

OK, so I need to share 7 random facts about myself and nominate 7 more bloggers for the award.

1. I'm a sushi fiend.
Photobucket
The best places are the hole in the walls I think. I love any roll with eel, avocado and spicy tuna.

2. I love action and romance movies.
PhotobucketPhotobucket
If only they could combine them in a non-cheesy way. My favorites would have to be The Departed, Green Street Hooligans, and Stardust - a total must see that somehow got overlooked, and anything with Jason Statham because I just love looking at him.

3. My favorite parts of vacations are the pool days
Photobucket
I look forward to the pool the most on these trips! It's always where the most memories are made and some of the best pictures are taken. My favorite pool is the one at the Hard Rock in Vegas, it's giant and gorgeous!

4. I love to read!
Photobucket
I enjoy everything from chick lit, murder mystery, to period pieces. My favorite books are: To Kill A Mockingbird, The Princess Bride, Little Women, and The Other Boleyn Girl. If you can't tell, I often love to read books and watch the movies (The Princess Bride book is identical to the movie and has some great things that were also left out, a definite must read).

5. I'm a bar snob.
Photobucket
Get it? It's a piano shaped bar? Bahahaha

Really, just the opposite. I love dive bars! They are so much fun and you can always dress however you want, plus the drinks are always a great price. My favorite are ones with entertainment, whether it's a piano bar (have you gone to one? They're the best! They can play anything, I swear!), dancing, or tables for flip-cup or beer pong.

6. If I had three wishes, one would be to sing.
Photobucket
I can't sing at all, whatsoever, not even the ability to hum. I would love to be able to sing though, it would be a dream (and miracle) if I just woke up one day with Mariah Carey's voice.

7. My left pinky finger doesn't touch my hand.
Photobucket
If only my cast looked as stylish as Beyonce's glove

In the 6th grade I broke it playing four square (of all things) and it's never been the same since. It drives me nuts! When I put all of my fingers straight up, it's hanging out all by its lonesome off to the side. If I could re-brake it and have it set normally, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

There, that's seven things! Hope it was interesting for you lovelies! Here's my 7 picks for my fellow bloggers:

1. Veronika from Veronika's Blushing
2. Amanda from Tales of a Horvath Housewife
3. The Beauty at Day Old News
4. Annie from Originate and Renovate
5. Amy from Mark + Amy
6. Kristie from Gardiner
7. DaciaVu at Vu La La

My Christmas Gifts

This year I made all of the women in my family and the BF's family aprons. I had wanted to do it last year, but never got around to it. I'm definitely an amateur when it comes to sewing- the only class I took was in the 7th grade- but the BF's mom helped me and I couldn't have done it without her! Thanks again, so much, for helping me with this! We had a lot of fun and often went delirous and nearly blind with the hours of sewing. I had no idea how long it takes to sew! Here are the pictures:

I was so excited to give these away, I could hardly hold it in! I figured everyone needs an apron, but rarely ever buys one and this could be something they could use everyday and have forever. What was your favorite gift to give this year?

New Years Resolutions Anyone?

Every year I try to think of some things that I've been wanting to do and make it my resolution to get them done. However, I usually only wind up doing maybe two of them, but hey, that's better than none.
*I would like to also point out that my friends love helping me and put absurd things on my list as well and sign it as witnesses.

I'm figuring that with 2010 being a new decade and all, I should actually start it off with something that's important to me and I can make myself do it.

So here it goes:

  • Write in my journal. I've gone on and off keeping a journal since I received my first one at my baptism when I was 8. It was a pretty white one with "Journal" written on it in gold lettering. I thought I was so grown up. I think my goal will be to write in it to record big events, or at least once a month for a round up. I did this at the beginning of last year and it lasted a whole 4 months. Maybe 2010 is the year to make it stick... if not, I'll use this Keel's one I've been wanting (also available at Nordstrom or any bookstore):

It should be easy to keep... it's fill in the blank. This is what their website had to say about the diaries:

There are three reasons why most people, although they have tried, won't keep a diary:

1. Not every day is very eventful.

2. It actually takes a lot of discipline to write.

3. In retrospect, many find what they have written embarrassing.

Isn't that the truth? How many times do you look back (if you keep a journal) and think, "This is so embarrassing, I can't believe I wrote/felt this way". Especially when it comes to dating, sheeeeeeesh, I'm gonna have to burn all of those pages one day.

  • This is going to be my big year of savings. I do put some money away each month, but this year I'm going to put away more and not touch it. Ever. Not even for a needed vacation or a cute dress I just have to have. Then one day I can have a jolly time with my old man.
Photobucket

To accomplish this, I'm going to open a Roth IRA for retirement, contribute to my mutual fund, and open an HSA to save up for Lasik Surgery so I can "see clearly now the blur is gone" (sing it to the tune!).

  • I want to lose 15lbs by May 1.

arm circles Pictures, Images and Photos

May 1st is my birthday and in California, it's already hot by then and you've already worn your swimsuit or have taken a trip where you wear your swimsuit nearly everyday. Thus, why I need to get in shape by then. I'm going to do this by counting calories (which I've already started and have lost 4 lbs!! Yippee!) and making it to the gym....twice a week?? OK, I know I need to go more than that and if I did I would see my results quickly and be pretty toned, but I'm just trying to be realistic here. I drive three hours round trip for work (yep, I'm nuts, no I don't have a glamorous job) and when I get home, I just want to veg out, eat, and then go to sleep because the long drive kills me. Maybe I'll just force myself to go right after work then and bump my goal to three times a week.

  • Learn to cook

I will do a follow-up post for this one, I hope it doesn't cancel out my previous resolution though. Cross your fingers!

  • To be more personal on this blog

I've been reviewing my favorite blogs recently and the reasons why I love them. Most of the time it's because I feel like I know them after reading their posts- they've let me in on a little secret whether it's fun pictures from the weekend or their favorite stuff. So, in 2010 LLP will be more personalized and have more personal photos and stories. I hope you guys enjoy!

Do you write resolutions? Do you keep them? What are your goals for next year?

What Are You Going to Wear for the Holiday?

I never thought bright pink would be a great Christmas holiday color to wear- I usually lean toward anything sparkly, gold, silver, blue, or black, but after seeing these ladies I'm going to reconsider.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Pink is sometimes hard to accessorize with because it's such a vibrant color, but I'm loving how SJP is wearing fishnets with her look and she doesn't look like harlot. You don't want to have too much going on, so I suggest to stick with silver, a light gold, nude, or black. If you're feeling daring add one splash of color like teal or purple with a purse, shoes, or statement necklace.

As for makeup, a sultry eye is great with golds with a touch of black and a cat eye. You can wear a bright lip shade, but make sure to keep your eyes more subtle.

What do you lovelies think? What are your go to holiday looks?

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all of my readers and fellow bloggers as well as anyone who stumbles upon my blog! I wish you the very best for the holiday and hope you all have a wonderful time spending it with your loved ones, eating great food (calories don't count at Christmas!), and remembering the true reason for Christmas. I'll catch up with you lovelies soon, I need to start thinking about my resolutions! Until then!

It's one of life's biggest choices don't you think? I'm getting my hair done in a few weeks and I can't decide!! What do you ladies think? I need as many opinions as possible please, please, please! Light? Dark? Darker??? So hard to decide!
Here it is straight:

I know there's not a huge difference, but I still can't decide which one I like best. What do you guys think?

If You Don't Want To Wear Pants, Do It In Style

Photobucket
like Blake Lively!! Doesn't she look great? I'm seriously loving this dress she wore to the Sherlock Holmes premiere! Her hair is so curly and bouncy, her legs look amazing in those gold Louboutin heels, and her jade ring is gorgeous. Her nude nails are perfect as well, a color would have been too much. I seriously can't stop staring at this picture, she looks divine.
Photobucket
I love Rachel McAdam's hair & makeup, but I am not feeling her jumper so much, the top is beautiful but I would have chosen a sexy short dress for her instead. Something similar to what Nicole Kidman wore at the Nine premiere.
Photobucket
Ashley Greene looks great to in another winter white frock with nude shoes and great lip color.

Any Good (EASY) Recipes?

Photobucket
(Aren't they adorable?! They're such wonderful people and have been a huge part of my life.)

Hi Everyone! I'll be visiting my Dad and Grandparents soon and my Grandmother no longer remembers how to cook (not even Jello, which she's made twice a week for the past 50 some odd years!) and my Dad and Grandfather have been living off ghoulosh and beans that they make at the start of every week- can you imagine?

So, for my visit, I would like to prepare some easy dishes for them while I'm there and make some ones to freeze for them to eat after I'm gone. I also want to give them some easy man-friendly recipes to keep and I'm looking at cooking books for first timers as well. If you have any suggestions for cookbooks or recipes, please send them my way! Feel free to email me too at lovelipstickandpearls@ymail.com

No Bueno Lindsay Lohan

I know that in winter everyone busts out their tights; sheer, lace, opaque, textured, and these past two winters they have been especially trendy, but I'm pretty sure that tights with runs in them didn't make the cut. What's your opinion (please disregard the fact the Lindsay is in need of a complete life makeover)?
Photobucket

The Smoking Ladies of Nine!

The girls really stepped it up for their latest premiere, thank goodness for Nicole because she looked a little matronly at the London premiere. I love Fergie's dress! It's stunning and I think this is the most gorgeous dress she's ever worn, please correct me if I'm wrong! I love how she accessorized with a gorgeous belt, earrings, bracelet, and clutch- all adding some definite shine! She's also rocking another trend with Penelope- the one shoulder look while Kate is going for the long sleeve mini-dress look that's huge this fall/winter.
Both Kate Hudson & Fergie have rocked the white dress trend for the premieres. Nicole's dress is gorgeous and young and also really similar the dress Dakota Fanning wore to the LA premiere for New Moon.
What do you guys think?
