Happy Friday! I'm so excited for this weekend, we're taking the girls to the beach for the first time! I can't believe we've never taken them before! We're heading down to San Diego with friends and Eleanor is over the moon about it. There's so much to pack though! Have you seen that little video about the beach before and after kids? That's totally true. I remember in high school, you'd head to the beach with a towel, tanning oil, and maybe a blanket.
This week is filled with some of my favorite favorites! I'm in love with every thing in this post (well, every Friday Faves post is favorites, that's why I include them here). I just picked up a few things this past week (tops, hair stuff, and beauty items) and I'm going to test them out before posting them, but if they're winners I'll be sharing them in the next few weeks on my Friday Faves posts. Do you prefer a theme of faves or just whatever is good at that time?

Recent Faves
Happy hump day! Only two more days left in the work week and Saturday will be here before we know it! There's been a few items I've been loving lately (and Ellie too) and wanted to share with everyone. Nothing crazy or expensive, just some everyday goods we enjoy.

This has been in my tea pantry forever and I recently started drinking it again and haven’t stopped. It’s so delicious and perfect for chilly mornings. I add a little bit of honey (Savannah Bee’s is delicious!) and it’s the perfect touch. It’s the perfect drink at night to unwind during a House of Cards episode, anyone else watching?

2. Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
I’ve now completed all of Gillian Flynn’s books and this one is by far my favorite. Gone Girl was great, I didn’t catch the ending, but it was a bit boring at the start for me. Sharp Objects, I knew who the murderer was from the get-go, but still enjoyed the book overall. Dark Places though… it snagged my attention from the start and I couldn’t figure out the ending until the last three chapters. It is a great read and perfect for a weekend getaway. They're making it into a movie with Charlize Theron as the main character and I can't wait to watch! Gillian Flynn is so twisted, I’ve really enjoyed the dark tales in her books.

3. “Sugar” by Maroon 5
No joke, I think this is the first Maroon 5 song I’ve truly ever liked. I love the sweet lyrics (pun intended) and the beat. The video is even cuter! Being married has done Adam Levine good- I hope I enjoy their future songs just as much. I'm finally getting Ellie to enjoy a song other than Uptown Funk.

4. “Uptown Funk” music video
This video (and song) get played at our house daily, on repeat, otherwise we have a tyrant on our hands. It’s Ellie’s favorite song and she gets down on the dance floor to it.

5. Spring Nails
After getting my nails done last week, I’ve been obsessed with bright and pastel polishes. I have a couple saved on my to-buy list, but you can check out my summer favorites post for my tried and tested colors!

Product Review: Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Nail Polish

When it comes to nail polish, we all know how much I love it. I always have my nails painted and in the few times I don’t, someone always comments about it. It’s just a little fun I like to treat myself to, a late night mani after Ellie’s in bed. I try to paint my nails once a week and the last time I had them done at a salon was the day before my scheduled c-section with Ellie (wow, that was almost 2 years ago!). The girls at work told me that a customer came in with a gel mani that was from Sally Hansen and talked about how great it looked. We were all on the hunt to get our hands on it, but the top layer was always sold out! In the meantime, I kept seeing it in magazines with top reviews so I was super happy to find a polish and top coat together in a pack.

The starter pack I bought came with the Gel Top Coat and Shock Wave, a fun bright Barbie pink. I couldn’t wait to try it out and see if it lasted the full 14 days like promised. Sally Hansen is one of my favorites polish brands, they’re polishes are part of the 3 free formulas (meaning they do not contain formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate) and their polish lasts just as long or longer than higher end brands like OPI or Essie. Plus, I find a lot of dupes at a better price with Sally Hansen.
Here are some of my first impressions:
-The brush is the same as their other Salon Manicure polish, which I like. It’s a fat bristle that makes it easy to cover the nail quickly.
-The polish is a little thin, but is not streaky and looks great with two coats.
-The Gel Top Coat has a very strong scent, like open all the windows and maybe-you-shouldn’t-paint-around-young-children-or-expectant-mothers strong of a scent.
-The top coat dries quickly, but it’s also thin and not very shiny. I was expecting a better top coat from it, similar to professional gel treatments or at least the equivalent to my Holy Grail Seche Vite top coat.

Have you tried a gel manicure at home? What brand and how did it go?

Recent Purchases: Mama + Me
Lately, I've been picking up a few items here and there so I compiled a post of everything over the last few weeks.I love to see what everyone is buying, what new products are out, and what deals they've found. Luckily, I've found some great deals and sales, especially with the holidays coming up. Around this time of year, I try to wait to buy things until Black Friday so I can get the best deal, but there's been a few items I've just had to have or I took advantage of pre-Black Friday deals.
On a side note, what the heck is up with the stores opening so early this year? Shopping at 6 is like regular shopping, not Black Friday shopping. They're taking the fun out of it! I think I'll just go shopping at my regular time and not care about standing in line or getting into a store first. Plus, I don't have anything specific or big to purchase.
I saw this a while ago on someone's IG account and when I saw that Ulta had some as stocking stuffers for $3 I scooped one up to test out. So far, I really like it! Especially when I wear my hair straight and I'm on day 2-3 hair and need some extra lift.
Remember the gray beanie I posted about on a previous post? Well, it finally cooled down enough to wear it a few days and I can’t freaking find it anywhere. It’s been abducted by aliens. So I picked it up in black until the martians decide to return it to its owner.
When do I ever turn down a scarf? Never! Grabbed this one from Target asap when I saw that it was 50% off!
Again, if it’s a scarf I must own it. I love this thick knit and the wine color is beautiful. I can’t wait to re-create this look from pinterest I pinned a million years ago with it. (LINK TO PIN)
Remember this gem from my Mama + Me post? I had to snag it, even if it was full price. I plan on being twinsies with Ellie for Thanksgiving this week.
Here are some things I've bought for Ellie:
I saw these online, but they didn’t have them yet in store at Carters, but I found them at Kohls! Add to cart. I wish they have feet attached at the bottom though, I prefer for Ellie's pajamas to keep her feet covered in the winter time. I'll just dress her in socks.
As soon as I showed this to Ellie she hugged it and I knew it was a winner. Now if I could only find one for me!
This is the perfect skirt for the holidays! It’s so pretty and I love the material. I can't wait for her to rock this little pretty to the parties.
How cute will these tights be with the above skirt? Love the fun polka dots!

Denim Skirt
Although this is from the girl's section, it totally looks like a boy's shirt. Until I dress my little Ellie Bell up with a giant bow and fur vest (or puffer vest)! Can't wait to see how cute she looks in this top.
Hope you all have a fabulous short week!

Sally Hansen Miracle Gel Polish
After seeing a ton of reviews I had to snag this for myself! I love Sally Hansen and will be doing a full review soon.
Milani Blush in Luminoso
Another winning recommendation from Meg. It was hard to find this shade- it was sold out everywhere. I really love the color, it’s a gorgeous neutral and I want to pick up a darker color for the fall season.

Boot Socks (in store)
Here are some things I've bought for Ellie:

Northern Isle Pjs
I love winter jammies that Ellie can wear all season (not just for
Christmas) and this fun bright print was perfect! I want to buy her a
larger size for next year I love it so much.

Denim Skirt
I love the look of fun printed tights/leggings with skirts/dresses for layering on little girls. This skirt is so cute on her, she wore it for our family pictures a few weeks ago.
These shoes are so adorable!! I love the silver flats (they run big) and want to get her the same pair in gold now. I couldn't help myself with the fox flats, they are just too cute.

Hope you all have a fabulous short week!

My Mani Secrets

Nail polish is kinda my thing, I love it and can't have enough! Every Target run I check out all the polishes to see if there's a color I just have to have. It's an easy to change and a quick way to try different trends (yes, I'm a broken record with that). Since I've been giving myself a mani at home almost weekly for years, I've picked up a few tips and tricks.
I always get a question or two about how I get a good mani at home. Here are the products I swear by!

Aquaphor is perfect for dry, cracked skin and softening cuticles. I put some on and use the cuticle pusher to make them pretty. If I need some extra help I'll use the cuticle remover and scissors, but I do try to use the scissors sparingly. After lots of painful nicks I've learned to not force it and just to clip the dry skin that's easy to get.
For the final touch, I swear by Seche Vite top coat for a quick dry and brilliant shine. Plus, I love the texture it gives my nails, almost like a gel! I use it for every mani/pedi, no matter how many coats you have to use, it only takes 10 minutes to dry. If after a few days my nails need some extra shine and my cuticles are looking ho hum I"ll dip a cotton ball into some baby oil to shine them right up.
What are your favorite mani tips?

Fall Polish Favorites

OPI Lincoln Park After Dark // Sally Hansen Slick Slate // Sally Hansen Uptempo Plum // Sally Hansen Black and Blue
Happy first day of fall! After posting my Summer Polish Favorites, it's only right to post my favorite fall ones today. I scoured through my treasure chest of polish and picked my favorite top eight to share. Most of my colors are close to black when applied, and I love how dark they look on.
Essie Wicked- A dark burgundy, I lived in this color last year and I'm excited to wear it again this season.
Essie Bahama Mama- A gorgeous dark purple, almost wine colored. I've had this on my toes for weeks now. It's so much darker than it looks in the above picture.
Essie Chinchilly- A total cult classic for a reason! Looks great on everyone and is the perfect neutral.
Essie After School Boy Blazer- Another almost black shade, I've been obsessed with Navy and I'll be wearing this one all season for sure.
OPI Lincoln Park After Dark- Another cult classic, a wine-black shade and gorgeous. It's so chic and dark.
Sally Hansen Slick Slate- Very similar to Chinchilly, but darker. It's perfect for your toes or fingers and pairs perfectly with a nude pink mani to match.
Sally Hansen Uptempo Plum- This has been one of my favorites for a few years now. It's a beautiful dark plum with some shimmer. It's perfect for a special night out.
Sally Hansen Black and Blue- I loved this shade last year! To get the dark color I wanted, I put two coats over a black coat and it was a beautiful color change with the blue, green, and purple. Very fun!
What are some of your favorite fall colors? Any color I'm missing out on?

Summer Polish Favorites
I'm an admitted polish fanatic, before having Ellie I painted my nails weekly. Since becoming a mom, I've slowed down on how often I get the chance to paint them, but my polish collection is still growing. Changing your nail color is such an easy and quick way to try new trends, add some color, and change up your look. I have a few shades that I keep going to time and time again. There are a few shades that I've come back to each summer year after year. After lots of evaluating, I've narrowed my favorite must-have shades to 8 gorgeous colors.
Sinful Colors 24/7 // Sally Hansen Blue Away // Sally Hansen Fuchsia Flare // China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy
Play Date and Blue Away are new this summer and I've used them a couple of times already. They're such fun vibrant colors. Below are some of my IG shots of the colors:
What are some of your favorite summer colors? Did I forget to include one?

Recent Beauty Items
I’ve recently got a bunch of beauty items and wanted to review them on the blog. Some are new to me and others are just re-purchases. I love to see what products other people continually re-purchase and I don’t think I post about it enough and honestly don’t remember the last time I posted about a re-purchase of a beauty product so I figured I could include it today. If people are buying beauty products over and over again, they gotta be must-haves for them right? I like to see what works for people on a regular basis, their everyday products, etc. I’ve bought a ton of make-up over the years that I initially loved, but never used it up completely or bought it again. Was it a bad product? Not necessarily, but not good enough to keep on hand. Today’s products include items I’ve used for years and have posted about them before, but like years ago.
MAC Eyeshadow Satin Taupe
This was the first MAC shadow I ever purchased and I used it all through college, but when I ran out I didn’t buy it again because I had so many other colors that were similar I haven’t used this shade in years. My SIL uses it regularly and when I was with her one day I used her make-up and fell in love with the color all over again. I’m so glad I tried it again because it’s a really beautiful shade.
MAC Eyeshadow All That Glitters
The first time I used this shadow was for my Bridal Shower back in 2011 when I had my make-up done and have been using it ever since. It’s a great neutral, a soft shimmer pink/beige that’s great to layer and I wear it almost daily.
MAC Eyshadow Naked Lunch
This is another great find I found when using my SIL’s make-up. She uses it daily and has for years, and I just had to have it for myself after using it. It’s very similar to All That Glitters, a soft shimmery pink color. It’s a little lighter shade though.
MAC Mineral Blush Warm Soul
This was a re-purchase for me (see my review here), this is my every day blush and I put it on my Secret Santa list with like three stars because I was out of it for so long and nearly scraping my blush brush to get some in the mornings. Don’t you hate when you run low on a favorite item and you’re scraping the sides of the jar to get more use out of it while you’re waiting to get a new one? You can see my initial review of this blush here, and it’s a total holy grail blush for me. I use it consistently and sometimes even use it as eyeshadow! It’s a beautiful color and so versatile, it really works for any skin tone and hair color.
Urban Decay Naked Palette 3
When I heard that Urban Decay was coming out with another palette, I freaked out. The first two palettes get a lot of use and I couldn’t wait to see what the third would hold (see my review of 1 here and 2 here). The third palette is lots of rose-hued shades and I wasn’t sure if I wanted it right away because I don’t wear a lot of those shades, but I put it on my Christmas list for my Secret Santa. That’s what those lists are there for right? For items you want, but maybe won’t buy yourself? Well, Santa came through and completed my UD Palette collection and I have been wearing the colors almost every day. They are really soft and pretty, I don’t think that the palette is as versatile as the first two versions so I wouldn’t consider this one a must-have or a holy grail product, but I would definitely check it out. I’m very happy with mine, but I don’t think I’ll get as much mileage out of this one as I do the first two.
Revlon Fuschia Shock
We all know my love of Revlon lip products right now, they are just the best and at such a great price point. I’ve been wanting a bright pink for a while and Ulta had all Revlon products buy 1 get one 50% off so when I went in I snatched up this pretty shade with a red one. I’ve only worn it a few times so far, but really love the bright color. It’s fun, has a warm tone, and lasts throughout the day.
Revlon Really Red
Red is such a fun color to wear and there’s so many shades and tones of red, it’s easy to fall in love with several of them. For the holidays, I wanted a bright, true red shade and after some inspiration from Julie at Gal Meets Glam, I went with Really Red. It was the perfect shade for Christmas and I’ve worn it several times since then.
Revlon Black Cherry
I’ve posted previously about wanting a dark shade to wear this winter and I was on a hunt all over for this Black Cherry shade, it was sold out at every Target, Ulta, Walgreens, and Rite-Aid I went to, I nearly gave up hope! Then I got the sweetest email ever from Sam who found the lipstick for me and wanted to mail it. I was absolutely floored by her generosity, people are so good and kind and her email and gesture meant to much to me. I was humbled and felt all warm and fuzzy that someone who reads this blog would reach out to me. I love getting emails from readers about fashion, beauty, parenthood, etc and I love that this has given me a platform to create so many friendships. Thank you again Sam!
So I wore this color to work, and I was kind of hesitant because it’s such a dark shade, I didn’t know if I could wear it during the day, but I figured you only live once, so why not? Wowza, I have never received so many compliments on a lipstick in my life. Now, I have no qualms about wearing it anytime I feel like it. It’s such a gorgeous, deep red, it’s like a nice merlot color. I absolutely love this lipstick and am so happy to add it to my collection. Don’t be afraid to try new shades! I’m so glad I have ventured out of my nude lip rut. Up until 2 years ago, I never wore anything but nude/soft pinks and recently I’ve been wearing brighter colors on a regular basis.
NYX Lip Liner Auburn
When I wore Black Cherry for the first time, I didn't have a liner to wear with it so I improvised and used a brown eyeliner and blended like crazy to keep from looking like a chola. I bought this color to go with the shade and it's a great match.
NYX Lip Liner Hot Red
With all the red shades of lipstick I have, for some reason I didn't own a red liner! I think liner is a must when wearing red because it can get so messy. This is a great match to my Really Red and some other red shades I have as well. Win!
Essie Wicked
I’m pretty sure this is a holy grail for a dark shade for every girl. I had a mini- version of it (I think) from some multi-pack I bought and I couldn’t find it so I bought the full size and haven’t taken it off. I like the dark vampy color (especially paired with the Revlon Black Cherry lipstick), it’s a deep maroon that’s almost black and I just love the shade. If you’re looking for a new dark I would definitely recommend this color. Another favorite is OPI Lincoln Park After Dark.
Sally Hansen Rapid Red
Again, with the red, I know. I’ve been looking for a bright red polish and was stuck because there are so many shades to choose from. I’ve always been happy with Sally Hansen polishes, they’re true to color, dry quickly, are part of the 3 free (?) of chemicals, and are a great price point. I finally decided on ___ and have been happy with the bright shade. It’s a true red, but a little lighter, without losing its redness. Does that make sense? You know how reds can be pink/red, orange/red, blue/red, or coral/red? I wanted red/red and think I found the shade I was looking for. I was afraid of finding the perfect shade only to have it not be true to the bottle or need several layers to gain the desired shade. This color is the perfect berry red, great to wear year round and I’ve had it on and off my fingers since I bought it. Finding time to do my nails since having Ellie has been tough! How do you mamas do it? She is not a sleeper and any extra time I get to myself, doing my nails falls short on my priority list.
What beauty items have you recently bought? Anything I need to have? What are some of your products that you keep re-buying continually?

People StyleWatch and InStyle Inspirations
“This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and People StyleWatch and InStyle magazines but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PeopleInStyle http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO”
Whoop whoop! I am so excited right now. Two of my favorite magazines have just come out with their December issues AND at Target, if you buy both People StyleWatch and InStyle magazine you get a $5 Target gift card! I have subscribed to both magazines over the years and have bought both forever. The September issues are of course one of my favorites, but dare I say, I think I love the holiday editions more. All of the holiday fashion, glam, and gift guides really suck me in.
This weekend after picking them up, I experienced my first Christmas miracle: time to myself! Everyone was asleep and I somehow still had energy to stay up and relax. It was glorious! What's more perfect than a lit tree, your favorite magazines and snack, and your baby monitor showing your sleeping beauty. I reveled every minute of it.
People StyleWatch has a feature in their December issue highlighting wearing skirts over the holiday and I couldn't agree more! Skirts are perfect for any party, can be worn with tights for extra warmth, and you can go sexy, flirty, or edgy with them. My closet doesn't have that many flirty skirts (mostly pencils) so I immediately started looking online and fell in love with this pretty one. Here is an outfit that was inspired by that article and the skirt I found. For a night out, pair a textured skirt with an embellished top, add some glam earrings, and metallic heels and you're ready!
In both People StyleWatch and InStyle had a lot of features for gorgeous accessories and beauty trends and since I've been on a jewelry kick since being pregnant, I had to put together some of my favorite looks inspired by the issues.
I think with any season, the extras are what make your outfit. They're a great way to jazz up what you already have in your closet, dip your foot into a new trend, and can be very budget friendly. Jeweled headbands or pins can be worn so easily with your hair up or down. InStyle featured a deep-berry mouth and this Black Cherry shade is gorgeous! I'm on the hunt for that lipstick and have been to two Targets that have been sold out! Jeweled necklaces really are a neutral for me now and are so much easier to wear than I initially thought. Glitter polish is an absolute must for the holidays, and a staple for me.
This year, I really want to do more with my hair, I feel like I'm always wearing it the same way (down and curled) and want to really branch out in putting it up more. The darker lip is another trend I'm dying to try. I've been hunting up and down the beauty aisles trying to find the perfect pucker color. Any suggestions or favorites of yours?
What are you looking to wear over the holiday season? What are your favorite trends right now?

Whoop whoop! I am so excited right now. Two of my favorite magazines have just come out with their December issues AND at Target, if you buy both People StyleWatch and InStyle magazine you get a $5 Target gift card! I have subscribed to both magazines over the years and have bought both forever. The September issues are of course one of my favorites, but dare I say, I think I love the holiday editions more. All of the holiday fashion, glam, and gift guides really suck me in.

Fall Recent Purchases
Now that we’ve had a few cooler days (we’re still in the 80s though most of the time) I’ve bought a few items to add to my closet for the fall season. Just some basics that I can use all the time and throughout the holidays. I’m mostly buying items that I can wear for several years, transition with the seasons, or to replace an older item. Of course, some beauty items were also mixed in. Shocking, I know.
Old Navy Tweed Puff Vest
Last year I bought a solid black puff vest and loved it! I definitely wanted some more and when I saw this tweed one online I immediately added it to my cart. I just love the fabric and it’s so warm and cozy. I wore it on Halloween night and stayed the perfect temp for the cold evening.
e.l.f. Blush in Peachy Cheeky
I’ve been wanting to try e.l.f.’s baked blush for a while after reading several reviews from bloggers about them. They were available online only forever, but I found it at my local Target recently and picked it up. It’s not very pigmented and also has a bit of highlighter in it. The color is really pretty, but not very pigmented and doesn’t last the entire day.
Forever 21 Swiss Dot Top
Stripes are usually my go-to, but I’ve started to like polka dots recently. This sweater is so easy to wear and light weight, which I love. I’m really into pairing simple tops/sweaters with a bolder statement necklace. It just adds some pizzazz to my everyday work look.
Sally Hansen Polish in Black and Blue
This color is so unusual, I love how it gives off so many different colors at once depending on the angle/light. By itself, it needed too many coats to achieve the pigment I wanted so I layered it over black and it was awesome! It would look good over blue, purple, or green too.
Forever 21 Crew Neck Sweater
I have two black crew neck sweaters that have seen the end of their days so I needed a new one to replace them. This one is a looser knit and is very comfortable to wear. I definitely want to pick it up in pink too!
Old Navy Short Zip Boots
Oh my goodness! These boots are so comfortable! I didn’t have to break them in at all and I’ve worn them a million times by now because of it. I thought the hubs would think they’re fugly, you know, Girl Cute vs Guy Cute and all, but he loves the look of them.
Forever 21 Beaded Headband
Last year I bought the most gorgeous beaded headband from Nordstrom and since we moved in January I haven’t been able to find it for the life of me! This will be perfect for the holidays to add a little sparkle to my look.
This top is also from Target, but I couldn't find it online.
Target Mossimo Leopard Shoes
Another shoe that was comfortable to wear from the get go! I feel like I’ve hit the shoe jack pot with these two purchases. I saw Jenn from Perfectly Imperfect buy them on InstaGram and had to get them myself after she said they were comfortable. Best $20 I’ve spent on work shoes. I also wear these all the time, I mean leopard is the new neutral right?
Forever 21 Plaid Scarf
I’ve been mad for plaid lately. I definitely want to add some more plaid shirts to my collection as well this year.
Maybelline Volum Express The Rocket Mascara
For years and years I used Maybelline, but it was always flaking onto my cheeks so I switched over to L’Oreal and didn’t look back. I’ve been more than satisfied with L’Oreal’s mascaras, but over the weekend I didn’t have any makeup on while visiting with my family and we were going to go out so I borrowed some from my sister in law. Holy moly! This mascara made my eyelashes look so incredibly long! I went out and bought it the NEXT DAY it worked so well! So far, I’ve been really loving it too.
What have you bought recently? I'm still hunting for a bright red polish and a deep raspberry lipstick (any suggestions??). Happy Monday!

InstaLately Link Up 21

I already have Sally Hansen's Coral Reef and I love it, but wanted a coral color that was more peach. Then at Target I spotted Essie's Tart Deco and fell in love, but kept looking. Then I spotted Sally Hansen's Snappy Sorbet and it is seriously identical to Tart Deco. I had them side by side and couldn't tell a freaking difference other than the price. I love both brands, but I took home Sally's. This color is definitely more orange coral than the peach coral I was looking for, but it's such a pretty color and will look fabulous all summer, esp with a tan.

Team Logan's Avengers for the Autism walk through Our Nicholas Foundation for my adorable nephew.

OMG. I use my Notes app for absolutely everything and this is the 3rd time that it's magically disappeared. I nearly died. After so many people helped me, I found that it is backed up on my email, but I'm so annoyed regardless and have downloaded another app in it's place.

Monday was the best mail day, all my Forever 21 goodies came in (see this post for details), a teething necklace I bought from Groopdealz (I'll post more about it on this week's bumpdate), and a birthday card from my Grandpa all came in. I save all of my grandparents cards and it's so nice to have so many from my great grandparents and my Grandma who passed away last fall. I love seeing their handwriting and their words of love.
