Product Review: Maybelline Mascara Showdown

I'm a HUGE Maybelline mascara fan and have been wearing their brand of mascara since high school. I'll try different mascaras, but always usually within the Maybelline brand. My go-to for years was the Maybelline Full and Soft paired with Maybelline Great Lash. For the past few months I've been using the Maybelline Colossal Volum Express mascara and have loved it, but wanted to try the Volum Express the Falsies. I thought I'd road test each to see if there was one that's superior to the other and give you guys some pics.

Here I am naked with no mascara, but with my lashes curled:

With Maybelline The Colossal Volum' Express® Mascara, one coat:

 

From their website, the mascara offers:
-Creates 9X the volume, instantly.
-Patented MegaBrush + Collagen Formula plump lashes one by one
-Dramatic Volume with no clumps
-Washable

My Review:
-I do love this mascara, it's easy to build volume, one or two coats is enough drama for me and looks great when paired with eyeliner and shadow to create the look of a lot of lashes.
-I don't think it gives me "9X the volume", but it does give lush lashes, especially to the smaller lashes at the inner corner of your eye and your bottom lashes.
-The brush is really full and easy to use.
-My only con would be that it's kind of dry and if you curl your lashes midday you will get flecks of mascara on your face. I only notice this though when I re-curl and not through out the day.
-It gives really full lashes, but doesn't lengthen them

My review:
- I really love the brush! It's bendy, but not ridiculous that you get mascara everywhere, but that it coats your lashes more evenly.
-You can use either side of the brush and get different results, I like to use the curved side first then flip it and use the flat side afterwards on the tips. I've read a lot of other blog reviews and it seems pretty split on which side people prefer.
-The mascara really fans out and separates the lashes
-This formula doesn't seem to be as dry halfway through my day like the Colossal Volum
-My only con is that it doesn't make my lashes fuller, just to appear longer. I do love how long they looked though.

Here are my lashes with the two mascaras combined, one for fullness and the other for length, although I don't really notice a big difference when I use them both together:

Overall, I would recommend these mascaras to everyone. I'm really happy with how they turn out and both look great with a done up eye. Plus, for $6 or less you can't really beat that!

High-Low Hems Coming Back?

My favorite dress I wore to a dance in highschool was for my senior Homecoming, it was a halter neckline and a high-low hem (I wore a few other dresses with the same hemline as well) that was a mixed blue and black print with glitter tiger stripes (our mascot was a tiger so I thought it was fitting). That sounds SO ugly now, but in 2001 it was super hip. High-low hems were in style another year, but I haven't seen them since.


Then low and behold, in one week two Hollywood hotties busted them out for the red carpet:





January Jones was one of my Best Dressed at the Emmys, in fact her dress was in my top 5. Last night, Jessica Alba wore a high-low hem to the Venice Film Festival premiere of Machete. 


I have a feeling that the high-low hems are going to be popping up everywhere! I think it's definitely a way to mix it up and you get the benefits of both a mini dress and a long one. This hemline may even be considered more versatile because it can work for both cocktail and formal attire. I'm not sure how I feel about them though since I've worn the trend before.


Do you ever feel that once you've worn a style, it's a little weird to where it again a few years later?


It's kind of like a mullet, except it's party in the front and business in the back.

Now I know I definitely don't need to add to my collection (remember this post? Some of my friends tried to stage in intervention!), but I think I'll definitely pick up a few things from the collections. Namely, a dark lipgloss, eyeshadow, maybe a nail polish or two.

My New Girl Crush

Meet my new girl crush, Amber Lancaster. I've seen her face randomly around the internet and quickly became obsessed with her style and especially her hair. She's currently starring in MTV's "The Hard Times of RJ Berger", but has been around for a few years as a trophy model for the Emmys and as a model on The Price is Right (love that show!).


I'm seriously, completely, obsessed with her hair. I love the color, length, curls, and simple style she wears! I also adore her make-up looks, dewy cheeks, bronzed glow, and lots of mascara!

I know this last shot is kind of (alot) sexy, but isn't her hair outrageously gorgeous????


If her hair wasn't tantalizing enough, I also want her wardrobe. It's simple, sexy, and young. What more could you want? I'm now seriously checking out my closet to see how I can copy these looks ASAP!!
