Yes, No, Maybe So?

Two-tone hair has been coming around the past year, LC and other celebs had this look last year, my mother says roots are in that all the celebs have them, buuuuuttttt what about drastically color two-toned hair? Maybe the ladies are taking a more relaxed role in their hair upkeep?

Personally, to me, this can easily look a bit trashy, kind of reminds me of people on reality TV where I just wonder to myself "You know you're going to be on national television, why didn't you get your hair done or buy a $5 box of color from the store?".

I like it better when there's more of an "ombre" look than drastic- like your tips are naturally that light from the sun.
Here's an example:

Here are some notorious obvious root celebs (and the reason why my mom thinks showing your roots is in style):

Now, I AM NOT trying so be superficial here, obviously your roots show in between getting it done. I know I don't have the $$ to get my hair touched-up every two weeks or so, but some ladies like it when their roots show. Jennifer Aniston and Madonna just have about and inch or less of roots, but what about the ladies who have roots going down to their ears and it's an obvious light vs dark war?

Here's my point and what I want to know from you;

Do you like this look?

Do you have your hair like this and love it?

Is this a growing trend where you live?

Fill me in!

So last year I got bored and got my hair highlighted (really blonde)...a few weeks later I decided I hated it and wanted to go back dark. So instead of paying my hairdresser again I bought dye in a box from Target and did it myself. It looked fine until it started growing out. So there I was faced with the fact that I would have to go to my hairdresser anyway. Then I saw that it was the "trend" so I let it go. It's not that drastic so I don't look funny (you've seen my pics). I was so happy that I had actually done something that was popular and didn't even know it. I mean do you really want to spend the money to dye your hair just to grow it out? I wouldn't. So in my opinion (after such a long story) if it's really two toned I don't like it. It has to look like you just never covered up your roots.

Do you like this look? - No, not the drastic 2-tone look anyway. Jen and Madonna look OK though.

Do you have your hair like this and love it? - Nope I don't (unless its been awhile since I got it colored - ha!)

Is this a growing trend where you live? - I haven't seen this much here in the Midwest. Just on trashy people who don't take care of their hair. LOL

Erin- Yes!! I agree with you! Thanks for your comment and sharing your story. Yes, I have seen your pics and yours looks good! Not at all drastic like Ashlee's.

Jessica- Hahahaha loved your responses!

I can't agree to this trend, it just looks weird to me! Although, back in teh day when I was blonde (only about most of my life!) I was a frequenter of such tragedies....oh to be in college and scrapping by!

New to your blog, and LOVE it! Come visit me! http://curlyinthecity-tek.blogspot.com/

Taylor- I totally understand! I had a look similar to this in college too, but it was a huge trend then.

Thanks for reading! I'll check you out!

I don't like the drastic two tone. But, as far as the the small bit of roots, I don't mind that. Actually, I got my hair highlighted like 6 weeks ago and at first I really hated how bright the highlights were. Now that my roots have grown out about an inch, I love the color so much more. It feels more natural now. I don't know...

I think Lauren Conrad is a perfect example of how to transition from dark to light. I live in a college town and there are a lot of girls sporting the drastic two tone look (black roots, platinum blond tips). It definitely looks trashy in my opinion. Even my boyfriend asks, "What is wrong with their head?" Lol.

I think Jennifer makes the roots showing thing work and I agree the two tone thing has to be done right to work!

Luvs!

I think SELECT people can pull the Jen look off, but other than that... it looks like people are just being lazy. I'm sorry but if you are a brunette and go blonde, you have to be prepared for the upkeep. He he : )

some of these ladies can pull it off and others can not. I think LC looks cute. But Rachel Bilson and Ashlee Simpson look like they are in need of a visit to the salon!

It's funny that you posted this because the last couple months I have noticed this growing trend and decided to jump aboard.
I have been blonde forever and decided to do melted highlights- I modeled them after Jenn Aniston and LC. I think it looks really good and more natural if you just do a color that's a little bit lighter than your natural and complimentary of your skin tone. So that's what I did and I never thought I wouldn't mind having grow out but it looks good and doesn't really look like I even have it... it just blends into a little lighter color.

So thumbs up for this trend- and it saves me money and time in the salon!

Roots are okay, Madonna and Jen I can handle. LC's hair is too too much. I mean pick if you want to go light or dark. And if you are in the process of growing you hair out then just go all dark. Not a fan!

Thanks for all the responses ladies, it's nice to see what the trends are everywhere and what your opinions are. So interesting!

i'm basically just rocking massive roots b/c i'm too cheap to go to the salon. i've been trimming my hair myself and really don't see the need to drop $150 right now. since this is somewhat of a trend i'm embracing it. i love LC's hair. i REALLY want extensions. why must they be so expensive!?

No thank you! I don't like it at all. Sure, some people can pull it off, but they would look better with their hair all the same color.
