Relationship Post: Finances

I know this is a personal or touchy subject for most people, but what works for you guys? Do you have one account for you both? Individual accounts only? Or a mix of both?

Right now the Fiance and I have our own accounts and a joint one we use for our wedding savings and purchases. I'd like to keep it this way or move to have our accounts all at one bank instead of three different ones. So what will we do after the big day?

Personally, I would like my own account along with our personal account so that we each can have a weekly "budget" to use or save as we please without getting any flack from the other, whether it's personal buys, lunches or gifts for each other. Then I would also like to have a joint account for us to use for everyday stuff, savings, etc.

The Fiance wants us to have just joint accounts. Nothing is wrong with that, but having my own account gives me a sense of independence still. He can have access to it, I'm not trying to hide anything from him, I just want something that's still "mine". Also, what if we don't communicate and we double pay the same bill, neglect a bill or over draw our account? Obviously, we don't do that with our individual finances now and don't plan on it in the future, but mistakes happen.

There's no rules for this, most people find what works best for them through trial and error. Here are some issues you need to discuss when combining your budget that I found helpful from MSN.com article "Are your finances as strong as your marriage?". I've only touched on a few topics in this post, so you can check out the full article here. It's really good!

-Banking and Bill-paying
Where to bank? What kind of accounts? Who is in charge of paying what and how?

-Joint Accounts
Will you set one up to go along with your own separate accounts? Will you only use a joint account?

-Where will your paychecks be deposited?
Will your paychecks go directly into your joint account? Will you take a sum of that and deposit it into your own personal account? Or vice versa, depositing your paycheck into your personal account and then transferring money to your joint account?

-How will you make spending decisions?
Will there be a cap in which you can spend without having "permission"? I'm sure it's cool with the Fiance if I buy a cd, but I should probably consult with him before buying a new entertainment system.

-Credit and Debt
You can try and keep your debts separate, but at some point you will have to combine debts, like when buying a home or car. Knowing your partner's strengths/weaknesses help you both in deciding what you need to do to improve your credit score and making a plan to pay of current debts.

-Future Savings
How will you save for a home, retirement, children's college funds etc? How much will you contribute and how often? How will you save the money or invest it?

What works for you guys? How did you find a solution? What's your advice?

I Tried It Tuesdays- Green Eyeshadow

Ok, so with my first Beauty Inspiration last week, I've thought I could switch up my Tuesday reviews with some I Tried It Tuesdays to showcase new beauty trends or looks that have caught my eye.

Let's get started shall we? If you haven't noticed, I have a ton of make-up (see this post for confirmation) and need to start mixing up my regular neutrals in favor of some new hues. Well, I love the green shadow from my Sephora Palette To Go from this post and I love this look from Scarlett Johansson (check out her Celeb Inspiration post here):

So here it is on me:

I used the green shadow from my Sephora To Go Palette this post, I know it's a bit darker, but I think it looks better with my dark eyes and makes it a little easier to wear during the day.

How to do it: After using some foundation and powder on my lids to help the shadow "stick" I first used Victoria Secret's Beauty Rush Wet/Dry Shadow in Gold Rush on my inner corners and brow bone as a highlighter (see my review on the shadow here). Then I washed the green shadow all over my lid from lashline up to the crease and used a smaller brush to line my lower lids. I then blended the shadow on it's edges to soften the look. Topped it with liner and mascara and I was off!

InStyle even called green a fall shade that's neutral to wear! Wow, I'm so hip. Check their tips out here.

What do you think? Do you like this idea for new posts? What do you want to see next?

My Halloween Costume 2010....

a FLAMINGO!!

Hahahaha was that your guess from my hint from this post?

I made it using my leotard from my 80s workout costume, 10 feather boas safety pinned together and to the seams, a toucan beak I spray painted black, and pink tights from Target.

For Halloween, I spent the night with my cousin's family and had a great time. I made cider from a recipe I got from Leah from The Way We Are (thanks again sister!) and it was bomb.com and my family asked that I make it again for Thanksgiving.

How was everyone's Halloween? What were your costumes? Did you see anything special?

Walk Now for Autism Speaks Pictures

A few weeks ago, I posted about a walk I was participating in with friends and family for my Fiance's nephew Logan to support Autism Speaks, check out the original post here. We had a great time at the walk and supporting Autism and its awareness. It's a wonderful experience to know that you're contributing to a good cause and to meet other people with loved ones with Autism. At the walk they had booths that support Autism, different companies or programs for Autistic children, and fun activities for the children. They also had all Gluten and Casein free food available. Thank you to everyone for your support and to the people who attended the event! Maybe one day we'll find a cure!

Our team raised over $2500 and the cause supplied us with our own booth and banner:

Here's the big man of the day with his father:

(I'm really sad we missed the Yoda photo opp)

One of my BFFs from Utah was in town and attended the walk with her little guy to help support the cause.

Let the walking commence! The walk was held in San Diego, CA and was a two mile loop. The weather was great along with the scenery and luckily for us it didn't get too hot!

Here's Logan taking a little break for the day! It didn't last long though, he was up and about with all of the excitement!
